For this assignment, you will post a reflection of the class journey -- where did we start, where did we go, what did you learn, whose shoes did you walk in along the way. Include in your work the following:
1. What difference did you notice in your choice of topics in the first part of the class versus the topics found in the texts My California and Train Go Sorry?
In the beginning assignments of the class, the class focused on the history and culture to the state of California. The most famous cities and historical cites of california. Also the museums, beaches and place to visit in the state of CA. Overall information of the culture of this state adn events that made California as historical state that is today in the united state.
Where as the books of california and train go sorry focuses on certain topic of the books. One was about short stories that took place in california and teh topic of Deaf community connect with ASL.
The topics in the first half was about experience of visting places that reflect the history of this state and for students to get the full experience by the field trips that we did on the assignements.
2. What difference did you notice when you read your classmates work regarding the same topics versus your own opinions? Did their works make you think of something different?
I think that all students have their different opinions on certain topics but all students have the same views on a topic. I did not see alot differences on the assigned topics trough out the semester but contribute their views on California history. After reading a few other students blogs on thei trips to beaches or museums i did learn more about a topic and how much california has to offer to the long time residents that live here.
3. How would Freire and the idea of dialogue and scaffolding play into your answers?
His ideas did come contribute to my opinions on social responsiblity and the amount of different cultures that live in the state of california. A person to find more information on other cultures or backgrounds that they are not familar with, is a person that is interested in learn more. Communcating with people with different languages and unfamilar interests is a person that puts effort in learning something about other people.
4. What was your overall experience with these topics?
I was definitley interested in the topics that were assigned in this class because i learned something about the topic. I would say i learned more about california, its past history and events about this state. The more i came out learning in the class was the field trips that we took and our independence of visting cities and places that i have never been to until this class came about. I different got more learning perspective by traveling and visting other places in california.

Rhianon
She stated a fact of doctors for around 100 years did not want to teach deaf people aobut ASL because they thought they would not understand proper english when they grow up. i think that doctors have had this belief of people learning the necessary things when they go to school. The american sing language is just as effective for communication with other people. I was very surprised to know that alot of medical professionals believed another way of learning only one way of coummunication.

Thida
I read thida's blog from ASL section, it was very interesting that people in deaf community teach deaf children to read lips and try to speak as they are young. If they use these techinques then they will be able to communicate with hearing people easier without had gestures. They will still understand another indivdual without little or no problems getting the message across.

Assignment: 5A train go sorry
"I am a hearing student assigned to read the book Train Go Sorry in my Introduction to Humanities Class. Other readings assigned in this class include several essays from the book My California. In both books, we examined the cultures of California that form a microcosm of the U.S. In this essay, I will incorporate 4 required questions." Then proceed to include the following questions.
Questions:
1. What does Train Go Sorry mean (who in the book is this referring to; there is a specific person, include his name and his outcome. Remember that good college writing assumes no one has read the information and you must present it or 'teach' it by giving us details.)?
Train go sorry is like missed opportunity or missed connections with another individual.
This book does tell the uniqueness of people that live their lives with other ways of communicating with each other. How a person can communicate in different ways to get their message across.
The story is about a boy name james taylor who deaf and had grew up with the disability. He has always wanted to be a normal person and just want to fit in with everyone else in the world. He grew up not very wealthy but in poverty and stuggling. as well growing up with the problem of not hearing. Always has this thought in his head that he missed out in his life or as he would like to put it "missed the boat". He does have alot of support from the deaf community with the choices he has made so far in his life. Later on he realizes that he is not the only that has missed out in his life. His brother joseph who was in jail for passed mistakes that he has made in the past has also missed the boat.
After alot thinking and events that take place in his life he realizes that he wants to take a stand in his life and make chances. He wants to live his life differently and be more happy.
2. What pair of 'shoes' do you think the main person in the book is walking in and what did she learn? In other words, who or what culture does she want to belong to and why?
the main person is the Author Leah hager cohen. Although is is not a deaf person she is very interested in the deaf community as well as how people with the disablity live their lifestyle with not hearing well.
3. What is one image you won't ever forget? Draw us a picture in words to explain this. What chapter is it in?
In chapter 5 where Sam and fannie are on the way the union league until sam collapses and is sent to the hospital. then after his father comes down to the hospital and try to be the interpreter, the ccu staff refuses him to come and be that position. As well as when Mr. cohen goes in to a cardiac arrest and fannie goes on a break down. While waiting to hear from the father to come to the hospital max arrives and fannie starts crying and hitting the lobby walls. I can picture that moment of helplessness and scared.
4. What are 5 facts about ASL or Deaf culture you think everyone should know after your reading of this book?
the first thing is in the 1880's is when the schools where being made foe the deaf of both internationally and in the united states. second is that ASL is the definition of American Sign Language. third is that i think ASL is an unwritten language. Their art of story telling is part of their language. fourth is that arts play a critical role in bonding. Deaf people is very visual and arts are very visual with their message. Then finally is that deaf people are the same as everyone else. They are normal people just like people that hear well. they are not "special" or different than everyone else.

I decided to do a comparision with Monica. For her 3A assignment of Cities, she a comparison on LA To San Francisco. Our comaparison category is primarily about San Francisco and differences of the CA cities.
2. What is something similar this classmate said about the choice?
Monica and spoken about the lifestyle that people live by in the city. As well as the activities that there is do. The population of people that live in the city had been similarly explained. Also the stereotypes that people have about the resident that live in the SF.
3. What is something different this classmate said about the choice?
One difference was that She focused on the visual of San Francisco and describing the buildings of architecture. Where i focused on talking about the activites there is today and a brief history on the past days of the Big City to the change that we see today.
4. How would you relate this to Freire's ideas regarding dialogue? For example, you went in thinking one idea, your classmate had a different idea. What new idea emerged from this process?
After reading her blog, i came with the conclusion that San Francisco has more to offer that just going out for the night or visiting places like the embarcadero.
I learned more about the cities and the knowledge of the San Francisco and how far its grown since 20 years ago.
There is alot of history that comes with the cities past and present. If i ever plan on living in San Francisco in the near future, i would like to know everything about its history and culture that i am not familar yet. If i do that then i will appreciate the the "City" even more than before.

Choose any 1 classmate that wrote about your same essays and briefly compare/contrast their choices and ideas versus what you said (eg "In my readings of these same authors I found that BLANK and my classmate also thought BLANK. An interesting point of view I didn't think of that my classmate said is BLANK")
I choose Dawnyel we both desribed that the story is about a girl and her iranian family moving to the city of newport beach. Agreed that she wasnt used to the new lifetstyle that peopl lived in newport beach. Decribed how different it is from where she is from and her family. We both found that it is a story that is moving from old enviornment to a new one. I think that we both understood the point and kind of story that Dumas was trying to tell to the people.
For the story of Berkeley we both explained that it is all about the town of berkeley and the activites that the city offers. The only she forgot to mention was the universtiy and its importance to thsi city.
For cotton mirrors, is about children that had visited a funhouse for the day. Having the freedom to go somewhere with your friends and learning something when the day is over.
California honky tonk, we both described is about artist that performs as a bar. Looks back at her way to get in to the music business. It did not successfully happen for her but looks back on the good memories of performing.

"Paradise" by liu talks about the town of Beverly hills. Talking about the way people live, amount of luxury lifestyle that a few people live. Visitors from other places come to Beverly hills and have learning experience. The amount of things that happen everyday is crazy. Similar to SF, there is always craziness going on in that city.
The story by jefferson/parker is about a two friends that go to owens river. Parker tells Brian about the things he did when he came to the river in the past. Fishing and flyfishing at the owens river. Both came back home with a good time spent at the river and also learned more about each other.
The story by Mackey, her slipping into the lake with cold and icy temperatures. Runs into a group of ducks that bring problems for while she trying to get back on land.
